The UT Tyler Men's Cross Country team is the No. 5 ranked team in the South/Southwest Region of the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Poll announced on Tuesday.
Last season, the men won their fifth American Southwest Conference championship in six years, their second in-a-row, and finished seventh at the NCAA regional meet.
The Patriots welcome back several runners from last year, including four All-Conference honorees and a strong class of freshman runners.
This season the Patriots will race in several races across the country, including the Arkansas Chili Pepper Run in Fayetteville, and the Texas Grassroots Running Festival in Austin.
UT Tyler is the only member of the ASC in the top-10 preseason rankings, coming in just ahead of fellow-Texas institution Trinity who sits at No. 6.
Lynchburg, who won the NCAA regional last season is the preseason No. 1 pick, followed by Emory, Centre and Bridgewater rounding out the top-four.
UT Tyler opens the Cross Country season on September 1 at the Dallas Cross Country meet in Dallas, Texas. |
